Hashimotos Thyroiditis, A Path to Complete Remission

Thyroid Disease, Hashimotos

Hashimotos Thyroiditis – Susanna, a 53-year-old accountant, first came to see me complaining of profound fatigue, weight gain, IBS, hair loss, irritability, and what she described as a “total loss of mojo.”

During our first consultation, she looked exhausted and emotionally drained. She told me, “I’m tired all the time. I wake up tired, I go to work tired, and by the end of the day I have nothing left for myself or my family.” She felt frustrated by her inability to lose weight despite eating well and exercising, and was increasingly concerned about her thinning hair and declining motivation.

As part of my assessment, I ordered a comprehensive thyroid panel through a private pathology laboratory. This included thyroid hormones (TSH, Free T4, Free T3), thyroid antibodies including Anti-Thyroid Peroxidase (Anti-TPO) antibodies and Anti-Thyroglobulin antibodies, along with key nutritional markers known to influence thyroid function and immune regulation. The results confirmed Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, an autoimmune condition where the immune system mistakenly attacks the thyroid gland.

From a mind-body perspective, autoimmune conditions often reflect an underlying fear of losing control. As we explored Susanna’s history, it became apparent that years of workplace stress, perfectionism, and constant responsibility had left her nervous system operating in a continual state of vigilance.

Over the course of four consultations, we implemented a comprehensive treatment program aimed at calming the immune response and restoring thyroid function. This included targeted herbal medicines designed to support T4 to T3 conversion, reduce thyroid inflammation, and address underlying Epstein-Barr Virus activity. We also introduced dietary modifications by removing common inflammatory triggers such as gluten, dairy, and all processed foods for a period of 6 weeks before carefully reintroducing them one at a time to assess tolerance.

A major focus was gut health. Using the GEMM Protocol, we worked to repair intestinal permeability (“leaky gut”), support the microbiome, and restore healthy immune surveillance within the digestive system. Nutritional deficiencies were picked up using the Oligoscan, including Vitamin D, magnesium, selenium, zinc, B12, iodine, and iron and we started her on supplements.

Alongside these physical interventions, Susanna completed six sessions of Ma’at Healing Therapy to clear unresolved subconscious and conscious emotional stress patterns. This process helped release long-held fears, reduce internal tension, and create a greater sense of emotional balance and resilience.

By the third consultation, Susanna reported improved energy, better mood stability, and clearer thinking. “I’m starting to feel like myself again,” she told me. By the fourth consultation, her fatigue had significantly reduced, her hair loss had slowed, her motivation had returned, and she felt more in control of her health and future. Her progress demonstrated the powerful results that can occur when thyroid health, immune function, gut integrity, nutritional status, and emotional wellbeing are addressed together.

At the nine month mark, Susanna’s IBS had completely normalised.  We retested her thyroid bloods which showed her Anti-TPO and Anti-Thyroglobulin had both returned to 0.  So clinically she can no longer be considered to have Hashimoto’s.

Susanna’s willingness and motivation to address all the factors in a holistic manner with the Ma’at Healing Therapy, working on her immune system, correcting nutritional deficiencies, reducing stress and following the principles of the GEMM gut healing protocol, really is why she had such a profound result.

Susanna wants to stay this way so will keep on some nutritional supplements, and has a monthly Ma’at top up.  She is finding she can tolerate dairy products now, perfectly well, but has chosen to stay off gluten.
